John Carter of Pixar?

Disney's John Carter PosterI have shied away from reporting news surrounding Andrew Stanton's John Carter film, and Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (which, by the way, is my new favorite spy movie) because they aren't bona-fide Pixar projects, even though they are both directed by two tried-and-true Pixar directors. This definitely won't be the last time a Pixar director crosses over to direct for another studio. But there are some facts that need straightening:

A Salt Lake City entertainment blog reported incorrectly that Stanton's John Carter is actually Pixar's first live action film masquerading as a Disney movie and that Pixar had engineered all of the special effects for the film:

I know Disney has been taking all the credit for this movie, but make no mistake—this is a Pixar movie. Some of this movie was shot right here in Utah, and all the press releases coming out billed this as Pixar's first live-action film . . . And the animation is all Pixar, which is second to none in the business."

A quick tweet to Andrew Stanton solved this pretty quickly:

There is what I believe to be a false report in SLC newspaper that Pixar did the SFX for John Carter. T or F? Who did?

@PixarPortal

FX for Carter were done in London by Double Negative, Cinesite, MPC, NVizable and Destroy All Monsters. All stellar.

@andrewstanton

So, "make no mistake" this is NOT a Pixar film.

Untitled Dinosaur Film Date Bumped

/Film reports that Pixar's Untitled Dinosaur movie has been bumped from its original 27 November, 2013 release date by a Disney project titled Frozen based on stories about a snow queen.

Naturally, this led to a bit of confusion as some first interpreted the news to mean that the Untitled Dinosaur Movie had been named Frozen, including some Pixar employees. That could make sense since the dinosaur film is about a boy and his jurassic pet. But /Film confirmed through Disney Publicity that it is, in fact, a seperate movie altogether.
