John Carter of Pixar?
I have shied away from reporting news surrounding Andrew Stanton's John Carter film, and Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (which, by the way, is my new favorite spy movie) because they aren't bona-fide Pixar projects, even though they are both directed by two tried-and-true Pixar directors. This definitely won't be the last time a Pixar director crosses over to direct for another studio. But there are some facts that need straightening:
A Salt Lake City entertainment blog reported incorrectly that Stanton's John Carter is actually Pixar's first live action film masquerading as a Disney movie and that Pixar had engineered all of the special effects for the film:
I know Disney has been taking all the credit for this movie, but make no mistake—this is a Pixar movie. Some of this movie was shot right here in Utah, and all the press releases coming out billed this as Pixar's first live-action film . . . And the animation is all Pixar, which is second to none in the business."
A quick tweet to Andrew Stanton solved this pretty quickly:
There is what I believe to be a false report in SLC newspaper that Pixar did the SFX for John Carter. T or F? Who did?
FX for Carter were done in London by Double Negative, Cinesite, MPC, NVizable and Destroy All Monsters. All stellar.
So, "make no mistake" this is NOT a Pixar film.
