A fascinating angle on the decade Steve Jobs spent in exile between his two stints at Apple has emerged from hours of old interview tapes. Journalist Brent Schlender dug up a box full of interviews he conducted with Jobs in various stages of his career, and has published a truly interesting article documenting the time he spent developing his two non-Apple babies NeXT and Pixar between 1985 to 1996.
Most intriguing are the lessons Jobs learned from Pixar that contributed to his success as he returned in 1996 to revitalize Apple. Of Pixar's historically rocky relationship with Disney he said:

Many of the management principles Apple is now famous for, Jobs discovered first at Pixar like the employee pay structure, financial management strategies, product streamlining, lifesaving corporate partnerships, top talent cultivation, and the immortality of a strong story.
