Catmull to Give University of Utah Commencement
The University of Utah has booked Ed Catmull, Pixar co-founder and current Pixar and Disney Animation President, to deliver its commencement address on May 4th, 2012. This isn't the first time Catmull has given speeches at the university, but will be his first commencement speech there.
Catmull is a Utah graduate himself and made significant contributions to the computer graphics industry while a student there. His student project, A Computer Animated Hand got a lot of attention and was recently added to the National Film Registry.
"It will be an honor to hear from such a notable innovator," senior class president Jamie Mathieu said in a U. release. "Ed Catmull is not only one of our most popular alumni, his story also inspires us to do great things with our lives and to keep pursuing our dreams."
Graduates of the University of Utah Computer Science program have had a profound impact on the computer industry. Some of Catmull's fellow graduates have gone on to found and lead companies like Adobe, Word Perfect, Novell and Netscape
